Leaflet delivery in Winter
It has been a good start to the year at Drop 2 Door, and we have already visited a number of towns in Aberdeenshire, Angus, Tayside and Fife.
We've been to Peterhead, Aberdeen, Portlethen, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Brechin, Arbroath, Carnoustie, Dundee, Invergowrie, Longforgan, Errol, Inchture, Perth, St Andrews, Cupar, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Livingston.
We even made our first ever visit to Banchory in February! It's one of those towns that we've simply never been to and, of course, when we did go it was to complete two consecutive, seperate, deliveries!
The weather has been mostly dry, which helps a lot – we can deliver in most weathers but rain is the worst. Once the water starts threatening to spoil the leaflets we have to suspend the delivery. We even delivered successfully in heavy snow showers in Forfar in January. That was fine as it was cold enough that we could just brush the snow off without getting wet!
Otherwise it was just cold, and that's not a huge issue as we soon warm up once we get walking. I'm noticing our 'warm up' times are getting shorter and shorter as we head towards Spring. It might not feel like it yet, but it's much milder now compared to what we had to endure in January and February.
We have a good team of full time, adult delivery staff and this is almost essential in making sure every leaflet goes through every door in the area we are targeting. Once you have delivered to the same area a few times, you know the houses that are easy to miss – e.g. the ones with a door at the back or up a narrow lane. In addition to good local knowledge, the team gets to know the job itself inside out. This then starts to make each delivery self policing – the guys know what is required and anything below that standard begins to stick out like a sore thumb.
